BELLEROSE, N.Y. –– The York College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) by scores of 9-1 and 13-2 at Padvan-Preller Field.
In game one, York scored first in the top of the first inning, thanks to a
Chyla Guevara RBI single through the left side that brought in
Karen Werner to make it 1-0.
But St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) responded back quickly, with five straight runs, all unearned in the bottom half of the first inning. St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) would score two more runs in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the sixth inning to put the game away.
The Cardinals committed seven errors in the game.

Dessiris Gonzalez,
Angelika Ruggiano, and
Darlene Judan all had one hit (5 total for the game). Judan took the loss for the Cardinals in 5 2/3 innings of work.
St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) pitcher, Theresa Armano (3-3) tossed five innings, allowing one run, to pick up the victory. Samantha Rossi was 2-for-2 for the game, with a run scored and a RBI.
In game two, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) (6-6) scored quick and often, taking it to the Cardinals (0-8), scoring the first 12 runs of the game, en route to the 13-2 win.
Trailing 12-0, heading to the top of the fourth inning, the Cardinals did not quit, as they finally broke through, thanks to an
Angelika Ruggiano RBI single to make it 12-1. The Cardinals would add one more run in the top of the fifth inning.
For the Cardinals,
Karen Werner was 1-for-3 for the game, with a run scored and Ruggiano was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
For St. Joseph's, Jamilynn McGowan (3-3) allowed one run in four innings to pick up the win. Center fielder Jackie Perillo was 2-2 with five RBIs.
Up next for York is Hunter College at Randall's Island (field 12) on Friday at 12 pm.
