Cardinals Men’s Basketball Drops Regular-Season Finale to Hunter College

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The York College men's basketball team fell in the regular season finale to Hunter College, 80-75, on Tuesday night.

Franklin Green led York in the loss with 21 points, while Jaron Williams filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, 11 boards and two blocks.  It was his 10th double-double of the season.  Rashaan Bailey added 13 points and eight boards off the bench.

Hunter (9-16, 6-10 CUNYAC) got 21 points from both Lester Anim and Jerell Antley, while Brian Kruger added 15 points.

York held an early lead but a 9-0 run sparked by two Kruger three-pointers put the Hawks up 33-24 just before halftime.  They would extend the lead to 11 points (39-28) going into the locker room.

In the second half, Hunter pushed its lead to as many as 15 points before York made a late run to cut the deficit down to three in the final minute.  However, the Hawks were able to hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

The loss puts York's record at 13-12, 8-8 CUNYAC.  Despite the loss, the defeat has no bearing for York on the seeding for the opening round of the CUNYAC Championship because York was already locked into the #5 seed.  They will be on the road for their quarterfinal game on Sunday and will take on the College of Staten Island at 1 p.m.  York is looking to defend its 2014 CUNYAC title, but will have a tough task ahead in the quarterfinal round on the road against Staten Island-- a team they lost to twice this season.  However, it was Staten Island that York defeated in last year's CUNYAC Championshp game.
