BRONX, N.Y. – The York College women's basketball team fell on the road to the sharp-shooting Lehman College, 83-69.
Tamika Taylor led the way for York (7-16, 4-11 CUNYAC) with 16 points and 10 rebounds on her way to her sixth career double-double. Taylor also contributed five assists and three steals.
Angelika Ruggiano and
Samantha Bond chipped in 14 points each.
Leading the charge for Lehman was Karrin Walker who had a big double-double consisting of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Yormese Jones was the sidekick to Walker's huge game, as she also had a double-double that totaled 19 points and 15 rebounds.
The Cardinals started out strong in the first half, keeping the Lightnings' offense stagnant. York had a one-point lead, 28-27, with 2:55 to go and looked like they were going to finish the half on top. However, the Cardinals saw that lead diminish as Lehman took the lead with 1:33 to go in the half after a three-pointer by Jennifer Navarro. The Lightning would take the momentum into the second half.
For the first 10 minutes of the second half, York was keeping up with Lehman (16-8, 10-5 CUNYAC) and their high-scoring offense. It seemed like the Cardinals were not going down without a fight. The Lightning would then go on a 10-0 run sparked by three York turnovers in just a two-minute stretch. As the clock winded down below 10 minutes, York looked as if their gas tank was on empty. With 8:52 to go, Yarmese Jones' layup brought the lead up to 20 for the lightning. From there, Lehman would close out the Cardinals.
The final regular season game for York is on the road against Hunter College (9-15, 6-9 CUNYAC). The game starts at 5 p.m. in Manhattan.
