Women’s Soccer Closes 2015 Season with 2-1 Loss to Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The York College women's soccer team played an exciting contest in their final match of the 2015 season, but came out on the short end, losing 2-1 to Yeshiva University.

Yeshiva got out to an early lead thanks to a pair of goals just over a minute apart.  Natasha Bassalian stole a ball from a York defender and scored in the 21st minute of action, and then Merav Saden Barach followed just 1:26 later with another unassisted goal.

The Cardinals responded in the 33rd minute when Kennisha Wills took a through ball from Andrea Castillo, ran past the Yeshiva defenders and beat the keeper to cut the deficit in half.

In the second half, the Cardinals had several opportunities to get the equalizer but could never convert.  Their best chance came on a penalty kick in the 49th minute.  Shanique Hill rifled a shot directly at the keeper for an easy save.

The Cardinals also had two other missed opportunities.  In the 69th minute, Kennisha Wills took a shot that should have found the net, but a Yeshiva defender came in at the last second to block the shot away from the net.  Then in the 79th minute, Antonella Campos made a nice move and fired off a shot that beat the keeper but went wide of the net by just a few inches.

Yeshiva finishes the season with a record of 3-11, while York closes out 2015 with a record of 5-10.  Despite York's record, there were many positives to the season. York picked up two more wins than a season ago, had three players named CUNYAC All-Stars and has no graduating seniors on the roster.  Look for better things in 2016.
