NEW YORK, N.Y. – The York College women's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by the Bloodhounds of John Jay College, in a pivotal CUNAYC matchup. This was an important match for the Cardinals, as the playoffs are around the corner. York could have solidified a playoff berth with a win, but now John Jay is one point behind York, challenging them for the last spot in the conference.
The Bloodhounds got off to a quick start. Jessica Jean scored 48 seconds into the game on a pass from Asia Shkreli. Katelyn Davis added a goal in the 25th minute on a nice through-ball from teammate May Dempsey. The third goal was scored just before halftime. Camila Vasquez netted a goal on a lovely cross from Bailey Gillen.
The Cardinals were lackluster on offense, only having one shot on goal. However, goalkeeper
Sarah Hilaire, had a stellar performance and kept York in the match. She had 18 saves total, the second-most saves this season for the junior.
York fall to 4-7, 2-4 CUNYAC, while John Jay is now 2-7-2, 1-1-2 CUNYAC. York looks to pick up a win with a match against CCNY (which will count as a non-conference contest) on October 21, at 3:30 p.m. The Cardinals won their previous matchup with the Beavers on September, 30, 1-0.
