Men’s Hoops Struggles Against John Jay

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York College men's basketball team had an off night in all aspects of the game, falling to John Jay College, 69-60, in a CUNY Athletic Conference contest on Friday night.

The Cardinals could not get anything going on the night.  York shot just 35 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from three-point range.  They were also outrebounded, 42-31, resulting in 12 second-chance points for the Bloodhounds.

In the loss, York (9-7, 4-4 CUNYAC) was led by Jaron Williams who picked up a double-double (16 points, 10 boards) and by Terell Roper, who matched a career high with 14 points.

John Jay (3-13, 2-6 CUNYAC) was led by Kris Owens, who netted a game-high 26 points and by Darell Robinson, who finished with 15 points.

It started out promising for York, as they jumped out to a 19-14 advantage following a Franklin Green three-pointer with 11:47 left in the first half.  But a 11-2 John Jay run followed, with Owens scoring six points during the stretch, to give his team a 25-21 lead. After York cut it down to one point, John Jay closed the half with six unanswered to go up by seven at halftime (39-32).

The Bloodhounds carried that momentum into the second half, scoring seven straight points out of the gate to go up by 14 (46-32).  From there, York was forced to play catch-up the rest of the night.  They would close to within single digits on several different occasions but were never really in the game from that point on.

York will try to rebound from the tough loss with a non-conference road game on Monday against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at 7 p.m.
