MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The York College women's volleyball team came out on the short end of three matches at a season-opening quad match held at Morrisville State. On Saturday, York fell to host Morrisville State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 27-25).   On Sunday, York lost in four sets to the City College of New York, 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 25-16) before falling to D'Youville College 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-11).

In the opening match on Saturday, York got six kills apiece from senior Stayce Kay Muirhead and sophomore Shauncia McClendon.  But Muirhead's best work came at the net, where she recorded a career-high 11 blocks (nine solo).  The total surpassed her previous career-best by five blocks, which was set back during her freshman season.  McClendon was also a force on the defensive side with eight digs and five total blocks.  Sophomore Tiandra Jones chipped in four kills, while junior Allison Li notched 11 digs.

Morrisville State used the service game to take down the Cardinals, serving up 15 aces, with six coming from Shania Shaver.

In the first match on Sunday, York took on a familiar foe and conference rival CCNY.  However, the match did not count towards their conference record.  Muirhead and McClendon once again led the way, each recording ten kills.  Junior setter Kiranjeet Kaur matched a career-high with 35 assists.  Freshman Renee Daley finished with six kills.

CCNY had big efforts from Saye-Chanti Joseph (15 kills) and CUNYAC pre-season Player of the Year Leticia Marotti (10 kills).

In the final match of the weekend, the Cardinals struggled against D'Youville.  Muirhead was the team-leader with six kills.  D'Youville had eight kills from both Abby Booth and Megan Schneider.

York (0-3) will play its home opener on Tuesday vs. the College of New Rochelle at 7 p.m.
