Men’s Soccer Suffers a 2-1 Loss to Medgar Evers College
BOX SCORE BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York College men's soccer team played in a hard-fought match against conference-rival Medgar Evers College, but the Cougars pulled out a 2-1 victory over York on Monday afternoon.
The Cardinals (4-6, 2-1 CUNYAC) were looking to improve upon their perfect conference record, but the Cougars (4-4, 2-2 CUNYAC) put York into the loss column in CUNYAC play for the first time this season.
After York controlled play in the early-going, Medgar Evers made the most of its limited opportunities, when Zeakiel Daley scored in the 13th minute off a free kick that went over the head of Cardinals' keeper,
Mohamed Elbarbary, to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage. The score would remain the same going into halftime
Shortly after halftime,
Wilmer Yunga, who was playing in his first game for York, tied the contest in the 51st minute when he buried a shot outside of the 18 that hit the side netting.
Diron Duah notched his CUNYAC-leading fifth assist on the score.
But the Cougars would strike again in the 70th minute, as Denzel Sebastian would strike the ball one-time off of a cleared corner kick to secure the win for Medgar Evers.
The Cardinals will look to rebound from the tough loss when they visit Lehman College this Wednesday on the road. Kickoff is 5 p.m.
