Women’s Volleyball Tops Medgar Evers but Falls to Hunter at Multi-Match

BRONX, NY— The York College women's volleyball team defeated Medgar Evers College 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17) for its first win of 2014 but fell to Hunter College 3-0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-11), as the Cardinals opened up CUNY Athletic Conference play at the CUNY multi-match held at Lehman College on Saturday. 
 
York got nice performances from its three big hitters— Shauncia McClendon, NaaDira Patrick and Stayce Kay Muirhead against Medgar Evers.  Muirhead had nine kills and hit .333 with three blocks.  Patrick and McClendon both added six kills apiece. 
 
The split now puts York's record at 1-6, 1-1 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals will continue CUNYAC action on Tuesday with a road match against Brooklyn College beginning at 6 p.m.
