OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The York College women's basketball team lost on the road Wednesday night against the College at Old Westbury, 80-55.
In the first half of action, The Cardinals kept the game close thanks to the performance of
Shauncia McClendon, who scored 15 points and made 70% of her shots. With 9:12 left in the half, a McClendon layup tied the game at 19-19, but the Panthers started running away with the game shortly after. Clarissa Gallagher scored 8 points and Jasmine Robinson scored 6 points within the final nine minutes of the half, to give the Panthers a 43-29 lead going into the locker room.
The Cardinals struggled shooting in the second half, as they made only 23.7% of their shots. The Panthers took advantage of York's mistakes and extended their 14-point halftime lead to a 25-point victory.
Four Panthers finished the game with double-digit points, as Robinson led the game with 19 points and Raven Pentz, Ruth Vargas, and Crystal Barnes each added 10 points. Barnes also nabbed 13 rebounds, giving her a double-double for the night.
McClendon led the Cardinals with 18 points, and collected 12 rebounds, getting her first double-double of the season.
Stayce Kay Muirhead led York with 13 rebounds as well in the effort.
York only made 26% of their shots, including making just one 3-pointer out of 13 attempts. In comparison, Old Westbury made 37.5% of their shots and made 25% of their 3-pointers.
The Cardinals (2-5) will look to move on from tonight's game against Old Westbury (3-3) when they return to action on Friday, December 5th on the road against the City College of New York at 5:00 pm.
