Women’s Volleyball Exits CUNYAC Tournament with Quarterfinal Loss to Hunter

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The 2014 York College women's volleyball season came to an end on Tuesday evening in the quarterfinal round of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships.  The eighth-seeded Cardinals fell to the #1 seed Hunter College by a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-5, 25-15).

The Hawks, who dominated the Cardinals in their regular season meeting, continued that trend in the postseason.  Hunter hit an impressive .413 for the night—their third highest mark of the season, while holding York to a hitting percentage of -.150, which was the Cardinals' second-lowest percentage of the year.

The Hawks were led by Karolina Gajda, who finished with a match-high nine kills, while hitting .571.  Taylor Kordich had five kills and hit .625, and Luca Stosic added five kills with a .500 percentage.

York was led by Shauncia McClendon with five kills. On a side note, senior Stayce Kay Muirhead needed ten kills to become the school's new record holder in career kills.  Unfortunately, Muirhead managed just two kills on the night.

York finishes the season with a record of 5-24.  Hunter, who is now 22-15, will advance to the semifinals on Friday to take on the City College of New York at 6 p.m.  The Championship match is scheduled for later that night at 8 p.m.
