Women’s Volleyball Uses Balanced Attack to Top Maritime

BOX SCORE
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The York College women's volleyball team had four players record five or more kills, using a balanced attack to defeat SUNY Maritime 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-17) on the road Thursday night.

Yasheka Lewis and Stayce Kay Muirhead led the way with six kills apiece, while NaaDira Patrick and Carlean McCrimmon added five kills each.  In addition, Lewis was very efficient, hitting .667 with no attack errors, while also serving up six aces.

The first two sets were very tight.  The Cardinals led 24-21 in the first set and were able to hold on after Maritime fought off two set points.  In the second set, York trailed 26-25 and was able to even the score, thanks to a Shauncia McClendon ace.  A McCrimmon kill and then a set error by Maritime gave the Cardinals a commanding 2-0 lead.  York then won the third set in comfortable fashion.

In the loss, Maritime (0-12) was led by Sydne Carella and Charlotte Acklin with six kills each.

York, now 2-8, will take a road trip to SUNYIT for a four-match tournament this weekend.
