BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2
JAMAICA, N.Y. – After dropping the first two sets of the match, the York College women's volleyball team rallied to take the next three sets and defeated John Jay College, 3-2 (15-25, 26-28, 25-22, 25-19, 15-13), as part of the CUNY Athletic Conference Multi-Match held at York College on Saturday.  Earlier in the day, the Cardinals lost to Baruch College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-16).

After dropping the match to the Bearcats to start the day, York was in jeopardy of falling to 0-2 in conference play, when it lost the first two sets to John Jay.

Led by freshman Carlean McCrimmon, the Cardinals would not be denied their first win of the season. McCrimmon was instrumental in the comeback, as she recorded a match-high 15 kills, while hitting .265 and adding eight digs.

After John Jay cruised to a win in the opening set, the two teams battled hard in the second. The Cardinals fell behind late, 24-21, and faced three straight set points but fought of all three to even it up at 24-24.  The Bloodhounds missed out on two more set points, before finally taking the set, 28-26.

After two poorly played sets, where the Cardinals hit at a negative clip, York began to pick up its play.  They took the third and fourth sets comfortably.  In the third, York pulled away midway through to get back in the match.  In the fourth, they opened the set with ten unanswered points and never looked back.

Things got much more interesting in the fifth, however.  York looked to have the match won, when McCrimmon registered her final kill of the match, to put the Cardinals up 14-10, with four match points.  But John Jay would not go easily, wiping away three of those, to make it 14-13.  On the ensuing point, York was able to benefit from a John Jay attack error and took the match.

Also chipping in during the Cardinals come-from-behind victory was Evelyn Florentino, who finished with 29 assists and 14 digs.  Stayce Kay Muirhead added nine kills and Shauncia McClendon had seven.

John Jay (0-7, 0-2 CUNYAC) was led by Martina Hot, who finished with ten kills and five digs.

York (1-5, 1-1 CUNYAC) will visit Hunter College on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
