Women’s Basketball Cruises to Victory over Vaughn College

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season by defeating Vaughn College by a score of 75-29 on Friday night.
 
The Cardinals never trailed on the evening.  With the score tied at 5-5, the Cardinals opened up 23-2 run over an eight-minute span to take a 28-7 lead with 10:18 in the half.  The Cardinals continued to expand on that lead and closed the half with a 13-1 run to take a 43-14 advantage into the locker room.  The onslaught continued into the second half, with York expanding its lead to as many as 48.
 
Turnovers were a big reason for the lopsided victory as the Cardinals forced 45, which they converted into 36 points.  York also held a huge edge on the glass, securing 69 rebounds to Vaughn's 48.
 
Angelika Ruggiano led all scorers with 17 points, while also handing out eight assists.   Danielle Dunn notched a double-double with ten points and 12 boards, while Shanelle Baldwin chipped in ten points and five rebounds.  Stayce Kay Muirhead was the biggest reason for the large rebounding differential as she pulled down 14 boards—ten on the offensive side, while also scoring seven points.  Kiera Burns chipped in nine points and Aveiann Roland had seven.  Vaughn's Aisyha Dunlap had 14 points to lead the Warriors.  
 
With this win, York Improves to 1-6 while Vaughn College drops to 1-5.  York is set to host Brooklyn College on December 10th at 6 p.m. in the York Gymnasium.
