BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite winning the turnover battle and controlling the offensive glass, the York College women's basketball team fell to NYU-Polytechnic on Monday night by a score of 58-46.
The Cardinals were +2 in turnover differential and grabbed 26 offensive rebounds but shot just 24.3 percent on the night. York also had a rough night from the free throw line, shooting just 38 percent from the charity stripe.
NYU-Poly wasn't much better, shooting 34 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line but the difference was enough to earn the victory.
The Cardinals had brief leads twice in the early-going, but for the most part, the Blue Jays held a single-digit lead throughout. NYU-Poly started to pull away late in the second half thanks to an 8-0 run that put them up by 12 points.
In the loss, the Cardinals were led by
Stayce Kay Muirhead who finished with a double-double, scoring ten points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Shauncia McClendon had a team-high 12 points to go along with six boards and
Angelika Ruggiano chipped in with eight points and six boards.
Shanelle Baldwin also added seven points and nine rebounds. York drops to 0-5 with the loss.
NYU-Poly was led by Tabitha Larsen, who finished with 18 points and eight assists. The Blue Jays improve to 2-4 with the victory.
The Cardinals will host Yeshiva on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
