BOX SCORE
WAYNE, N.J.– The York College men's basketball team fell to William Paterson University by a score of 64-55 in a non-conference contest Monday night.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the opening minutes of the game, but the lead did not last long, as William Paterson would later go on a 17-4 run to take a 23-17 advantage with 3:11 in the first half. They would take a 27-21 advantage into the locker room.
The Pioneers held the lead throughout the entire second half, extending their advantage to as many as 15 points. However, the Cardinals rallied late and closed to within five after an
Omar St. John three-pointer made it 55-50 with 1:45 to play. York could get no closer, though, because the Pioneers were nearly perfect from the free throw line down the stretch.
The Cardinals were led by St. John, who scored a team-high 26 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Jaron Williams finished with a double-double, netting 11 points and pulling down 10 boards.
William Paterson got a huge effort from Sandy Burgos, who scored a game-high 32 points.
The Pioneers improve to 4-1, while York drops to 2-4. The Cardinals will return to action on Friday with a home contest against Vaughn College at 8 p.m.
