York Men’s Soccer Falls in Overtime for Second Straight Match

CCNY rallies late to tie the match, wins in 2 OT

BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, N.Y.— The York College men's soccer team dropped another heartbreaking match, falling 2-1 in two overtimes to the City College of New York at Randall's Island on Saturday afternoon.  It was the second straight CUNY Athletic Conference contest they lost in the second overtime.

It looked like the Cardinals were on their way to victory against the Beavers. York broke a scoreless tie just before halftime, when Andre Adelson headed in a corner kick off the foot of Rachidi Amadou in the 40th minute.

The Cardinals held onto that 1-0 lead and were on the verge of victory until CCNY tied up the match in the 84th minute.  A free kick by CCNY's Fanhor Sanchez found Anthony Scarallo, who found the back of the net to even up the score and eventually send the match into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, CCNY got the golden goal in the 107th minute when a long pass from Matthew Mbamelu found Nicolas Carrao in the goalie box.  After a loose ball scrum, he got the ball, dribbled past the goalie and scored, setting off a celebration on the Beavers bench.

In the Cardinals previous match against John Jay, last Saturday, they also lost in the 107th minute after holding a lead late in the contest.

Despite the loss, York keeper Shady Mohamed played well in goal, stopping six shots.  CCNY keeper Maxwell Berkow made an impressive 13 saves.

With the loss, York drops 3-7, 1-3 in the CUNYAC, while CCNY improves to 4-6-1, and 3-1 in CUNYAC play. The Cardinals will return to action on Monday when they visit SUNY Old Westbury at 4 pm. Live stats are available here.
