Fordyce Leads York over Maritime in Women’s Volleyball

JAMAICA, NY—York College junior Sharon Fordyce recorded eight kills and hit .267—both match-highs— to lead the York College women's volleyball team to a straight-set, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) victory over Maritime College on Thursday night.
 
York needed the big effort from Fordyce to come out on top, as the team only hit .015 on the evening.  The Cardinals also received a strong defensive effort from freshman Allison Li, who led all players with nine digs.  Junior Emely Vasquez had a good serve working all night, recording a match-high four aces.
 
Maritime also proved to be its own worst enemy, committing 13 service errors and 24 hitting errors.  They were led by Tessa Jardine, who finished with six kills in a losing effort.
 
York improves to 4-12 on the season, while Maritime drops to 0-12. The Cardinals will travel to Penn State-Abington this weekend for a quad match.  York will battle Arcadia University at 10:00 a.m., Penn State-Abington at noon and Rutgers-Camden at 3:00 p.m.
