Big Games From Patrick, Li Not Enough as Women’s Volleyball Drops Match to CCNY
BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, NY— York College junior
NaaDira Patrick slammed a match-high 11 kills and freshman Libero
Allison Li added a match-high 12 digs, to go along with three kills and a .429 hitting percentage but it would not be enough as the Cardinals Women's Volleyball team fell in four sets to conference-foe the City College of New York 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18) on Thursday evening.
York had its opportunities in the sets they dropped, particularly in the first set. The Cardinals trailed 20-15 in the opening set, but cut the lead to one point (22-21) thanks to a string of four straight attack errors by the Beavers. But CCNY righted itself after a timeout and took the next three points to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals came out strong in the second set, hitting .391 and recording 13 kills. Sophomore
Stayce Kay Muirhead had four of her five kills in the set to lead the Cardinals. York kept it close in the third and fourth sets but the Beavers pulled away late in both instances.
CCNY was led by Elsie Almiron, who registered a team-high 10 killls and Dalliana Toussaint, who picked up ten kills.
The Beavers improve to 4-4-, 3-2 in CUNYAC play, while York drops to 3-10, 1-3 in the CUNYAC. The Cardinals will visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a tri-match against USMMA and Montclair State on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
