Muirhead, Fordyce Lead York to Four-Set Win Over Sarah Lawrence

JAMAICA, NY— York College sophomore Stayce Kay Muirhead recorded ten kills, three blocks and three aces and junior Sharon Fordyce added nine kills to lead the York College women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21) victory over Sarah Lawrence College on Thursday evening. 
 
Defensively, York got double-digit digs from three players, led by libero Allison Li, who finished with 14 digs.  Antenieka Burton added 12 digs and Pamela Yap had 10 digs, while also recording five aces.  Setter Evelyn Florentino finished with 22 assists.
 
York cruised to a first-set win and held a comfortable 15-7 margin in the second set, until Sarah Lawrence began to pick up its play.  They fought back in the second set, nearly overcoming the deficit, before losing 25-23.  They then controlled the third set, winning by a score of 25-18. 
 
The fourth set started out tight, with the Cardinals holding a narrow 12-11 advantage.  But the Cardinals rolled off 10 of the next 12 points to take a commanding 22-13 cushion. 
 
York, 3-4, will compete at the Jay Street Challenge this weekend on the campus of NYU-Polytechnic.  The Cardinals will take on host NYU-Poly on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Montclair State at noon.
