York Tops Purchase in OT Thanks to Molake’s Golden Goal
BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y.— York College sophomore midfielder Gbolahan Molake scored the match's only goal in the 104
th minute to lift the Cardinal's men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Purchase College in the second overtime on Monday evening.
York was frustrated all night after failing to convert one great scoring opportunity after another. The Cardinals completely dominated the contest, taking 32 shots on the day—16 of which were on goal—but came up short in just about every way possible. York had shots that hit the post and the crossbar, missed wide-open nets and had 15 turned away by Purchase keeper, Dylan Hyman. It looked like York would have to settle for a 0-0 draw until Molake broke through with the golden goal in the second overtime.
Purchase didn't have many scoring opportunities but Cardinals' keeper
Qudus Kassim turned away the four shots he saw to earn the shutout.
With the win, York gets its first win of the season and improves to 1-10-1, while Purchase College falls to 5-5-1. The Cardinals will hope to build off the win on Wednesday when they visit Hunter College at 5:00 p.m. at Randall's Island.
