Furious Rally Falls Short for Women’s Volleyball Against New Rochelle
BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, NY— Down two sets to one and trailing 23-15 in the fourth set to the College of New Rochelle, the York College women's volleyball team mounted a furious rally, coming back to get set point, only to fall short in the end and lose by a score of 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-17, 30-28).
Things looked bleak for York when they trailed by eight points and were just two points away from dropping the match but a string of seven straight points helped cut the deficit to 23-22. After CNR got a point to set up match point, the Cardinals scored three straight and had set point, following a CNR hitting error and kills by York's
Sharon Fordyce and
Pamela Yap. But a service error by York tied the match up once again. The two teams went back and forth from there and the set was still tied at 28-28. A York attack error gave New Rochelle match point and then New Rochelle's Christine Biskup finished off the match with a kill.
Despite the loss, York had big efforts from
Stayce Kay Muirhead, who finished with a match-high 12 kills (.393 hitting percentage) and Fordyce, who recorded ten kills and hit .600.
Jeannie Tran led York with 11 digs on the evening, while Yap registered 21 assists, nine digs and two aces.
NaaDira Patrick also had a nice performance with eight kills and five digs.
Cydney House led New Rochelle with 11 kills (.318 hitting percentage), while Meghan King chipped in ten kills.
York falls to 5-17, while New Rochelle improves to 7-9. The Cardinals will visit William Paterson for a tri-match on Saturday.
