Men’s Soccer to Take on Baruch in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The matchups for 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference/ Applebee's Men's Soccer Championships were announced Thursday afternoon. York College will travel to Kingsborough Community College to square off against top-seeded Baruch College in the quarterfinal round.  The Cardinals, who are the #8 seed, will look to upset the top-seeded Bearcats on Wednesday, October 24 at 3:15 p.m.

York (4-10-1, 2-5-1 CUNYAC) got off to a slow start this season, going 0-10-1, while not playing to its full potential. The Cardinals have been led by top-scorers Andre Adelson and Jordan Chin, who each powered four goals into the back of the net this season. Chin began the season playing defense, but since being moved to midfield, the Cardinals have not lost. York closed the season on a four-game win streak, outscoring its opponents 14-3, including a 5-2 victory over Medgar Evers College and a 6-1 win over Sarah Lawrence College. The team caught fire at the right time and will take a lot of momentum into the first round of the CUNYAC Championships.

Baruch (8-5-3, 6-0-2 CUNYAC) also got off to a slow start this season, going winless in its first five games. Oren Kozlowski netted 10 goals for the Bearcats this season, while Vincent Cruz added six more, helping Baruch turn its season around. Christopher Peralta also contributed five goals and six assists during Baruch's 8-1-2 run to finish out the regular season.

York lost to Baruch earlier this year on October 3 in a 4-0 shutout. Brian Wright scored two goals and Christopher Peralta added a goal and an assist to help lead Baruch to victory. These two teams faced each other last year in the semifinals, where Baruch earned a trip to the finals with a 5-0 victory. The Cardinals look to upset the top-seeded Bearcats, avenging the prior losses on their way to a CUNYAC Championship.

The other quarterfinal matchups are: #7 Hunter College vs. #2 Brooklyn College, #6 Lehman College vs. #3 CCNY, and #5 College of Staten Island vs. #4 John Jay College.

Should York advance, they would face the winner of Staten Island/ John Jay in the semifinals on Saturday, October 27 at Randall's Island at either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.
