Box Score
JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's soccer team fell to St. Joseph's College (Long Island) by a score of 2-0 Wednesday. The rainy weather, along with the final score, put a damper on the Cardinals home opener.
After 26 minutes of scoreless play, St. Joseph's broke through thanks to a free kick after a York foul. The Eagles' Julian Barreiros rifled a low shot in the right corner to beat Cardinal goalie
Qudus Kassim.
The score would remain 1-0 until midway through the second half, when St. Joseph's picked up an insurance goal. John Dettori beat a York defender then shot the ball in the left corner of the net to give his team a 2-0 advantage.
York had some decent chances to score throughout the game but could not get the ball past St. Joe's keeper Chirs Mulhs, who stopped nine shots. York outshot St. Joseph's by a 15-10 margin on the day.
The loss drops York to 0-3 on the season, while St. Joseph's improves to 1-2. The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday when they take on the Pennsylvania College of Technology at the Centenary College Tournament.
