Second-half Surge Lifts Old Westbury over York

WESTBURY, NY— A pair of goals early in the second half proved to be the difference as SUNY Old Westbury defeated the York College men's soccer team, 2-1, in a non-conference contest Monday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Old Westbury struck first. Ten minutes into the second half, a penalty kick was given to the Panthers and German Parodis converted it to give Old Westbury a 1-0 lead. Just nine minutes later, Steven Burgos set up Scott Carey for a goal to give the Panthers a 2-0 cushion.
A few moments later, in the 68
th minute, York's
Wilkerson C. Jean Jacques helped cut in the deficit when he took a pass from
McLaney Moise and put the ball in the back of the net to make the score 2-1.
York pushed hard over the final 20+ minutes to try and get the equalizer but was unsuccessful. Old Westbury keeper Pablo Diaz made eight saves to preserve the victory. York keeper
Qudus Kassim stopped 12 shots in goal.
The loss drops York to 1-10 this season, while Old Westbury improves to 2-7. The Cardinals will host Hunter College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
