JAMAICA, NY—The York College women's volleyball team hosted a pair of games on Tuesday evening and earned a split, falling to the College of Mount Saint Vincent 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-16) in the opener but rebounding to defeat Cooper Union 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19) in the second match. 
 
Things looked promising in the opening match, as the Cardinals took the first set by a 25-18 tally.  York hit .133 in the first set, picking up nine kills and three aces.  After MSV edged York to even the match at one set apiece, the wheels fells off for York.  The Cardinals hit -.222 and allowed seven aces and the Dolphins took advantage, taking the third set easily.  York struggled again in the fourth set, hitting at a -.160 clip.  Meanwhile, the Dolphins hit .231 in the fourth set, which accounted for the difference in score. 
 
Despite the loss, York's Stayce Kay Muirhead played exceptionally well, slamming ten kills and hitting .500 on the evening.  Antenieka Burton finished with a match-high 14 digs, while also adding six kills.  Pamela Yap added 16 assists and eight digs and Yahseka Lewis finished with six kills and eight digs.  The Dolphins (2-7) were led by Morgane Booker who finished with ten kills. 
 
In the second match, York (2-6) took advantage of a number of Cooper Union miscues.  Cooper hit -.068 on the night and recorded 13 service errors.  The Cardinals were led by Lewis in the second match, who finished with a match-high five kills, while Yap served up five aces.
 
The Cardinals will return to action this weekend at the Jay Street Challenge held at both NYU-Polytechnic and New York City Tech.  York will battle Farmingdale and Polytechnic on Friday and Montclair State and Brooklyn College on Saturday.
