Purchase Rallies to Top Women’s Volleyball in Five Sets

PURCHASE, NY— The York College women's volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Purchase College Monday evening, but could not hold on as Purchase rallied to take the next three sets and win the match 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-10) in a non-conference contest. 
 
York had a big game from freshman Stayce Kay Muirhead, who hit .450 on the evening (11-2-20) and blocked six shots and from sophomore Pamela Yap, who registered 33 assists, nine digs and seven service aces.  Freshman Yasheka Lewis chipped in with nine kills and eight digs, while sophomore Sharon Fordyce added seven kills, and four blocks.  Laureen Cay Oliver paced York with 12 digs.  
 
After York managed to take a 2-0 lead, Purchase (4-7) stepped its game up. The Panthers hit .500, .538 and .545 in the third, fourth and fifth sets respectively.   Jenni Nardi led the Panthers with ten kills and a .625 hitting percentage to go along with 13 digs. Mickaela Olson had a huge game on defense, picking up a match-high 32 digs. 
 
York (4-16) will visit he College of New Rochelle on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
