City College Bests York in Three Sets

NEW YORK, NY— The City College of New York's Zuleyka Polanco had a match-high 19 kills to lead the Beavers over the York College women's volleyball team 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) in a CUNY Athletic Conference match-up Tuesday evening.
Polanco accounted for nearly half the teams' kills and also served up five aces, while adding eight digs. Yorklyn Akumah also added seven kills and six digs for the Beavers, who moved past the Cardinals in the CUNYAC standings with the win.
York was led by freshman
Stayce Kay Muirhead, who played very well in a losing effort, slamming ten kills with a .292 hitting percentage. Anteneika Burton finished with five kills and a match-high eights digs.
Pamela Yap had five digs and 15 assists.
CCNY took the first set with ease pulling away midway through the set. In the second set, York jumped out to a 14-9 lead following a kill by Yap. However, the Beavers roared back. After cutting the lead to 15-11, CCNY rolled off five straight points to take a 16-15 lead. They did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set. The third set was also close early on, but CCNY pulled away late one again to clinch the match.
York will visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
