NJCU Downs Women’s Volleyball 3-0

JAMAICA, NY— Despite strong games from York's Maria Suero-Santos and Emely Vasquez, the York College women's volleyball team fell to New Jersey City University 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-18) in a non-conference match Thursday evening.
Suero-Santos led all York players with five kills in 15 attempts, while Emely Vasquez banged four kills and served up five aces, four of which came in succession during the first set. Miryam Candela also had a nice game, recording 12 assists and a team-high nine digs. Libero Pamela Yap digged six balls for the Lady Cardinals.
NJCU's Tabitha Jordan recorded a match-high 14 kills to lead the Gothic Knights. Michelle Rayo led all players with 13 digs, while Alex Johanesen picked up 11 digs.
The loss drops York to 0-2 on the season, while NJCU improves to 1-0. The Lady Cardinals will return to action on Saturday at the CUNYAC multi-match held at York College. York will take on Baruch College at 11:00 a.m. and Medgar Evers College at 3:00 p.m.
