Lady Cardinals Top St. Joseph’s but Fall to Old Westbury in Tri-Match

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at a tri-match held at York College Saturday. The Lady Cardinals fell to Old Westbury, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-20) but bounced back in the second match to defeat St. Joseph's (BK) in five sets, 3-2 (26-24, 11-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-11).

Old Westbury got off to a fast start, taking the first set by a score of 25-12. After Old Westbury took the second set, the Lady Cardinals looked poised to force a fourth set, when they took a 20-16 lead in the third set. However, Old Westbury would go on a run, scoring the next nine points to take the match.
Ashley Greene led the Panthers with eight kills, while Carlotta Pope added seven kills. The Lady Cardinals were paced by Maria Suero-Santos who picked up four kills and seven digs.
St. Joseph's Recap
It was a back-and-forth match in the final contest of the day, with each team splitting the first four sets. York pulled away in the fifth set to take the match.
Suero-Santos led York with ten kills, while Mi-Asia King added seven kills, ten digs and five blocks. Sharon Fordyce finished with six kills and Pamela Yap led the Lady Cardinals with 14 digs.
York improves to 3-8 with the win, while St. Joseph's falls to 2-8. Old Westbury, who also defeated St. Joseph's improved to 9-4 on the season.
York will visit John Jay on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
