Rutgers-Newark Downs York in Women’s Volleyball

NEWARK, NJ— Rutgers-Newark proved to be too much for the York College women's volleyball team Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lady Cardinals by a score of (25-7, 25-18, 27-25).
After dropping the first two sets, York battled hard in the third and had two chances to force a fourth set. York held a 24-23 lead and a 25-24 lead, needing another point to clinch the set, but Rutgers-Newark fought off set point both times and eventually took the final frame by a score of 27-25.
York was led by Pamela Yap who finished with a match-high ten digs, to go along with two kills and an ace. Setter Miryam Candela added seven digs and six assists for York.
For Rutgers-Newark, Rachel Witt slammed a match-high nine kills and Gabi Mangieri recorded a match-best 18 assists, as they improved to 4-7 on the year.
With the loss, York drops to 2-6. They will return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Lehman College at 7:00 p.m.
