Esonwune Gets Second Straight Triple-Double; Evelyn Nets 23 as York Tops Lehman 86-54

JAMAICA, NY— York College junior Marcel Esonwune recorded his second straight triple-double, netting 26 points, grabbing 18 rebounds and blocking ten shots and senior Elijah Evelyn added 23 points and eight boards to lead the York College men's basketball team to a 86-54 victory over Lehman College Monday afternoon.

 

Esonwune followed up his 32 point, 24 rebound, 12 block performance on Friday against Brooklyn with another phenomenal performance against the Lightning on Monday.   He currently leads all of NCAA Division III in rebounds per game (15.2) and blocks per game (4.1). 

 

York (19-6, 12-1 CUNYAC) were never really threatened in the game, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back.  York took a 12-point lead into halftime and then outscored the Lightning by 20 points in the second half. 

 

Also contributing for York was Ryan Exum who finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.  Xavier Garvin led Lehman with 14 points and Perry Daniel had 11 for the Lightning who fell to 8-17, 5-8 in the CUNYAC.

 

York closes the regular season winners of the CUNY Athletic Conference South Division and will be the #1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC playoffs. 

 

The Cardinals will host the City College of New York on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the York College gymnasium.  It will be spirit day at York College and a number of great prizes will be awarded to fans, including two tickets on Jet Blue Airlines.
