Lehman Rallies to Beat York 3-2

Box Score

BRONX, NY— The York College men's soccer team jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second half, but could not hold off the Lehman College attack, as the Lightning rallied for two second half goals to defeat the Cardinals 3-2 in a key CUNY Athletic Conference match Wednesday evening.

Trailing 2-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest, Lehman's Assami Valian scored an unassisted goal to even the score at 2-2.  Then in the 76th minute, Lehman's Gilherme Silva took a pass from Geovanny Arrendondo and beat York keeper Qudus Kassim for the game-winning goal.

In the first half, Lehman opened the scoring in the 17th minute, with Arrendondo scoring on a pass from Silva.  The score would remain 1-0 going into halftime.

Early in the second half, York was firing on all cylinders.  Freshman Khadim Kebe was awarded a penalty kick after a handball in the box by a Lehman defender. Kebe converted the kick to even the score up at 1-1.  Then in the 63rd minute, Kebe was awarded yet another penalty kick after he was fouled in the goalie box.  This time, Kebe came up short, hitting the crossbar on the kick.

However, it looked as though the missed penalty kick would not hurt York, when junior Ousmane Toure took a pass from junior Hugo Cicanois and beat the Lehman keeper to put York up 2-1.  But Lehman would not be denied, and the two late goals gave them the key conference victory.

With the loss, York drops to 3-5-2, 2-2-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference, while Lehman ups its record to 5-7-1, 4-1-1 in the CUNYAC.  York will look to rebound from the tough loss on Saturday when they visit Baruch College at the Metropolitan Oval.  Kickoff is at noon.
