MASPETH, NY—The York College men's soccer team failed to defend its 2009 CUNYAC title, as they lost to Hunter College 1-0 in the semifinals of the CUNYAC/ Applebee's Championships Saturday evening.
The lone goal of the match came in the 72nd minute when a York turnover in its own zone resulted in an open shot for Hunter's Aykut Can, who rifled a shot from 30 yards out into the back of the net.
York managed very little on offense throughout the game. The Hawks kept the Cardinal offense at bay, leaving York's scoring opportunities few and far between. The Cardinals managed 13 shots during the match but only four were on goal, and none of those four shots were difficult saves for the Hawks keeper.
York keeper Pierreson Pierre-Louis played well in net, stopping eight shots despite the loss.
York ends its 2010 season with a record of 6-9-3. Hunter (9-7-3) moves on to face Lehman College in the championship game next Saturday. Lehman ousted Baruch College in penalty kicks in the other semi-final match
