Men’s Soccer to Battle John Jay in CUNYAC Quarterfinals
The York College men's soccer team has earned the third seed in the upcoming CUNY Athletic Conference/ Applebee's Championships and will host John Jay College, the sixth-seed, on Wednesday, October 27th at 3:00 p.m. on the York College Soccer Field.
In the other quarterfinal match-ups, top-seeded Baruch College will host #8 Medgar Evers College, #2 Hunter College, will entertain #7 CCNY and #4 Staten Island will take on #5 Lehman College.
It's been an up-and-down season for York (6-8-2, 4-3-2 CUNYAC). York started off the season dropping five of its first seven matches but has come on as of late, winning three of its last four. They capped off the regular season with a six-goal outburst against Berkeley College on October 20th.
In the past few years, York has had one or two players doing the majority of the scoring— but this season, York features a very balanced attack, with three players scoring six or more goals. A trio of freshman has led the Cardinals attack in 2010. Rachidi Amadou leads the team with 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists), Menard Millus is second with 16 points (7 goals, 2 assists) and Khadim Kebe has 12 points (6 goals). Juniors Hugo Cicanois (9 points) and Ousmane Toure (8 points) have been key scorers as well.
On defense, the Cardinals are once again anchored by ECAC and CUNYAC All-Star Jaime Hay. Sophomore Brian Broadbelt has been a key defender as well, and has even contributed on offense, recording a goal and an assist this season.
The Cardinals tied John Jay, 2-2, in their previous meeting on October 2nd. Should York win, they would advance to the semifinals, which will be played on October 30th at 6 pm or 8 pm at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, NY.
