Cardinals Drop Non-Conference Match to Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, NJ— After jumping out to an early lead, the York College men's soccer team allowed five unanswered goals and fell to Rutgers University-Newark by a score of 5-1 in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.
11 minutes into the game, York's Khadim Kebe headed in a ball into the goal off of a pass from Brian Broadbelt to give York a 1-0 advantage.
Things looked promising for York until the 26th minute when RNU's Josh Alvarez evened the score when he beat York keeper Qudus Kassim on the right side. Rutgers-Newark would make it 2-1 before halftime after Jason Chung kicked the ball in net after a header was deflected right to him.
The Scarlet Raiders would explode for three goals in the second half to make the final score 5-1, including another goal by Alvarez.
With the loss, York falls to 5-8-2, while Rutgers-Newark improves to 9-6-1. The Cardinals will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Berkeley College at 4:00 p.m.
