York Women’s Volleyball Downs a Pair of Division II Squads

WEST CHESTER
, PA— The York College women's volleyball team earned a pair of impressive victories Saturday, defeating two NCAA Division II teams, Cheyney University and St. Paul's College.  The Lady Cardinals earned a hard-fought 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 27-25, 15-10) over St. Paul's in the first match and then capped off the day with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-15) sweep of host Cheyney.  In addition, York senior Charlina Gallegos was named MVP of the tournament and senior Irma Ruilova was named to the all-tournament team. 

 

York battled from a 2-1 deficit against St. Paul's, earning a narrow win in the fourth set and then putting the match away in the deciding set by a 15-10 tally.  The Lady Cardinals then carried the momentum to the second match and cruised to an easy win over Cheyney.    

 

Gallegos served up ten aces and added six kills in the match against St. Paul's then added nine more aces against Cheyney.  Ruilova also had a big day serving, finishing with a combined 13 aces, while also recording 18 digs in the two contests.  Cinthia Guerrero turned in a solid effort, recording six kills against St. Paul's and five aces against Cheyney.  Rhevany Knowles and Emely Vasquez each had 10 digs apiece in the win over St. Paul's. 

 

York, 2-1, will visit Mount Saint Vincent's on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
