York Tops Medgar Evers, 2-1, for First Win of Season

BROOKLYN, NY – The York College men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Thursday with a 2-1 defeat of conference-rival Medgar Evers College. The Cardinals improve their record to 1-4, 1-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference with the victory.
York got on the board early, when sophomore Francisco Florez beat Medgar Evers keeper, John Ajirotutu, on a free kick in the ninth minute of play. York would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Then in the 65th minute, reigning CUNYAC Player of the Year, Elysee Vilsaint scored an unassisted goal –his first of the season- to make it 2-0. Medgar Evers's Daniel Joseph would cut the lead to 2-1 when he scored an unassisted goal five minutes later but York was able to hold on in the final 20 minutes of play to get the win.
York goalie Samer Abdel-Fattah stopped seven shots, while Ajirotutu made four saves.
York will return to action on Monday when they host St. Joseph's College (LI) in a non-conference match at 4:00 p.m.
