Box Score
NEWBURGH, NY – A goal by Mount Saint Mary's Francesco Marando on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, proved to be the difference as the York College men's soccer team fell to the Blue Knights, 2-, on Saturday afternoon.
As the result of a dangerous cross from the left side, a scrum of players collected in the York 18-yard box, eventually resulting in a foul on the Cardinals. Marando drilled the back of the net to give the Blue Knights a 2-1 advantage.
It was Marando's second goal of the contest, with the first coming in the 36th minute to open the scoring. York tied the game in the 62nd minute when sophomore Richard Amponsah's shot ricocheted off the cross bar and into the goal.
York outshot the Blue knights 17-8 but was unable to take advantage of its scoring opportunities. Mount Saint Mary's goalie Paul Aries turned away save shots in the win, while Cardinals goalie Samer Abdel-Fattah stopped four.
York, 0-3, will visit Drew University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
