Hamilton-Lopez, Esonwune lead York to Win over NJCU

, NY— Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez netted 20 points and Marcel Esonwune scored 17 points, grabbed 15 boards and block four shots to lead the York College men's basketball team to a 68-60 triumph over New Jersey City University Saturday afternoon.

 

York got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 18-8 with 9:16 to play in the first half.  The Cardinals regrouped and took their first lead when Hamilton-Lopez connected on a three-pointer with 4:52 to play before halftime.  York extended its lead to seven points (32-25) after a Keith Thornton three with 1:10 to play. The score would stay the same until halftime. 

 

In the second half, York extended its lead to 12 points, its largest of the game, with 12:23 to play.  Later in the half, with 3:58 to play, NJCU's Josh Lopez hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to just five points.   However, Esonwune responde for York, scoring the next four points to put the game out of reach for NJCU, who fell to 5-3 on the season.

 

NJCU's Isaiah Johnson finished with 18 points and six boards, while Kyle Ingram added 12 points and five rebounds.  The Gothic Knights out shot York, 42 percent to 31 percent, but committed 22 turnovers to York's 15.

 

York will be until January 2 for the Christopher New port Tournament in Newport News, Virginia.
