JAMAICA, NY— Despite leading for the first 38 minutes of the game, the York College women’s basketball team could not hold on and fell to Medgar Evers College, 66-62, in a CUNY Athletic Conference match-up Wednesday evening.

York looked to have the game in hand right from the start jumping out to a 15-0 lead on the strength of five points from Justina Boatwright (Queens, NY/ Martin Van Buren).   However, Medgar Evers clawed back into the game and trailed by just five points, 29-24, at halftime.

In the second half, York looked to be in control once again and extended its lead to 12 points, 50-38, after a three-pointer by Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) with 10:49 to play.

The Cougars once again battled back and slowly cut into the lead.  A lay-up by Tabrese Harris with 2:03 to play cut the lead to 62-59.  The Cougars then intercepted passes on two consecutive York possessions which they turned into easy points to take their first lead of the game, 63-62 with 0:59 to play.  Medgar Evers then turned up its defense and did not allow York to score in the final minute.
