Men’s and Women’s Swimming Downed by Lehman

BRONX, NY— The York College men’s and women’s swim teams were downed by the Lightning from Lehman College in a CUNY Athletic Conference meet on Tuesday evening.  The women lost by a score of 100-60, while the men fell 94-54. 

 

Women’s Recap

Despite the loss, freshman Averie Mohammed (Queens, NY/ Jamaica) was once again a bright spot for the Lady Cardinals.  Mohammed swept the sprint events, winning both the 50-free and the 100-free.   Mohammed along with Ayanna Bennett (Hempstead, NY/ Uniondale), Dawn Davis (Cambria Heights/ Van Buren) and Maria Amate-Mathieu (New York, NY/ Manhattan) won the 200-yard medley relay.   Bennett also had a strong meet, placing second in the 50-free and the 100-back.  

 

The loss drops the ladies record to 1-8, 0-4 in the CUNYAC. 

 

Men’s Recap

Rookie Andrew Phillips (Uniondale, NY/ Uniondale) put together another impressive meet, winning both the 50-free and 100-free to lead the men’s squad.  Junior James Kearney (Hempstead, NY/ Hempstead) also took second place in the 100-breaststroke. 

 

With the loss, York falls to 2-5, 0-3 in the CUNYAC. 

 

York will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Kings Point, to take on the Merchant Marine Academy and Old Westbury in a tri-meet.
