Keene State Owls Soar over Lady Cardinals

KEENE, NH – In the opening round of the Keene State College (NH) Holiday Tournament, the host Owls earned an easy, 98-51, victory of the York College women’s basketball team Friday afternoon.
Keene State (7-2) shot 61.7 percent from the field and forced 27 turnovers and advanced to tomorrow’s championship game against the winner of Mass College of Liberal Arts and Curry College. York (0-8) will face the loser in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
Keene State featured a balanced scoring attack with four players reaching double figures in points. Kristen Degou led the way with a team-high 15 points.
For York, freshman Justina Boatwright (Queens, NY/ Martin Van Buren) recorded a game-high 16 points, shooting 5-7 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe. Ishonda McFarland (Bronx, NY/ Columbus) added ten points off the bench for the Lady Cardinals.
The Owls were never threatened in the contest thanks to an opening 12-0 run just 2:20 into the game. Degou and Alyssa Sapp each netted five points in the run.
York never closed to within singled digits for the rest of the game. The Owls led by 30 at halftime and their 47-point advantage at the end of the game was the largest of the day.
