Lady Cardinals Cruise in Win Over John Jay

NEW YORK, NY— The York College women’s basketball picked up its second straight win Friday, cruising to a 71-54 victory over John Jay College. Sophomore Maimouna Dabo (Bamako, Mali/ Lycee Notre Dame du Niger) scored a game-high 22 points and freshman Justina Boatwright (Queens, NY/ Martin Van Buren) finished with 18 to lead York to the win.
The game featured a wild start, with York jumping out to a 10-0 advantage only to see John Jay respond with 10 straight points of its own. A Boatwright three-pointer ended the run, giving York a 13-10 lead with 12:56 left in the first half. With 8:18 to play and York holding on to a 20-18 advantage, the Lady Cardinals opened up a 9-0 run to take a 29-18 margin. Dabo led York with five points during the run. The Lady Cardinals would take a seven point lead, 36-29, into the locker room.
York was never threatened in the second half. John Jay closed within six points early in the second half but could not get any closer. The Lady Cardinals led by as many as 19 in the half.
Also contributing for York (2-11, 2-4 CUNYAC) was Kadisha Wickham (Brooklyn, NY/ HJ Robinson) who finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with four steals. Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) also added nine points and Niya Jarvis (Bronx, NY/ Talent Unlimited) finished with eight points, five rebounds and four steals.
For John Jay, (1-14, 0-6 CUNYAC) Parker Griffin led the Bloodhounds with a team-high 19 points, while Jessica Lirio and Domenique Grice each netted 11.
York will return to action on Monday when they St. Joseph’s (BK) at 7:00 p.m.
