Men’s and Women’s Swimming Falls to Staten Island

JAMAICA, NY— Both the men’s and women’s swim teams fell to Staten Island Friday night. The men lost 112-81, while the women were defeated 110-64. 

 

Women’s Recap

Despite the loss, the Lady Cardinals got a strong performance from Averie Mohammed who placed first in three events: the 100-free, 50-free and 200-free relay.   She was the only swimmer from York to earn first in an individual event.  Mohammed was joined by Ayanna Bennett, Romero, and Sonham Yankey in the winning 200-free relay squad.

 

York falls to 1-7, 0-2 in the CUNYAC.  The Lady Cardinals will host John Jay on Monday at 6:00 p.m.

 

Men’s Recap

The Cardinals earned four individual first place finishes from four different swimmers.  Corey Rouse was first in the 100-free, Andrew Phillips earned first in the 50-free, Kyle Gomes was first in the 500-free and Dwayne Beach earned the gold in the 100-breast.  Rouse, Phillips, Beach and James Kearney also won the 200-free relay for York.

 

With the loss York falls to 2-4, 0-2 in the CUNYAC.  York will visit Lehman College on January 20 at 7:00 p.m.
