York Soccer Blanked by Centenary, 2-0

HACKETSTOWN, NJ – The York College soccer team dropped a non-conference match-up Thursday afternoon, falling to Centenary College 2-0. The loss drops the Cardinals record to 4-4 on the year.
In the first half, York withstood heavy pressure by the Cyclones, who out shot York 10-4 in the first half. The Cardinals managed a few scoring opportunities but were unable to convert.
In the second half, the Cyclones broke through in the 59th minute when Matthew Winkler beat York goalie Pierreson Pierre-Louis (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ Van Buren) for the games first score.
Despite the goal, York continued to battle and remained within striking distance until the 84th minute when Centenary put the game away. On a free kick just outside the box, Centenary’s Andrew Pinnella set up Chris Guadgano who headed the ball in to give the Cyclones the 2-0 advantage.
Despite the loss, Pierre-Louis had a solid game, making five stops. Damien DiBuono made three stops for Centenary to earn the shutout.
Centenary out shot York 15-6 for the game and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cardinals will return to conference play on Saturday when take on Hunter College at the Metropolitan Oval at 1:00 p.m.
