Vilsaint and Nicolas lead York Past Medgar Evers

Box Score

JAMAICA, NY— Michel Nicolas (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ Newtown) and Elysee Vilsaint (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ South Shore) each netted a goal and assisted on another to lead the York College men’s soccer team to a 3-1 triumph over conference-rival Medgar Evers College Wednesday.

York wasted little time getting on the board, as Nicolas tallied the games first goal off a well placed pass from Vilsaint at the 1:30 mark.

After 20 minutes of scoreless play, however, Medgar Evers evened the score when Ancil Porter-Lee beat York goalie Pierreson Pierre-Louis (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ Van Buren) on a shot in the right-hand corner of the net.  Kwami Adissou had the assist on the play.

The score would remain the same until the 39th minute.  This time it was Nicolas setting up Vilsaint for the game-winning goal.

Just three minutes later, freshman sensation Hugo Cicanois (Santiago, Chile/ School 436) added an insurance goal off an assist from Kurtney Peter (Vieux For, St. Lucia/ Viex Fort CSC) in the 42nd minute.

The Cardinals out shot Medgar Evers 16-12 and held a 4-3 edge in corners.  Pierre-Louis stopped four shots in goal to earn his third win of the season.

York, winners of three straight, improves to 3-1, 1-0 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), while Medgar Evers falls to 1-8, 0-1 CUNYAC.

The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow when they visit SUNY Purchase at 7:00 pm.
