York Falls to Mt. St. Vincent and NJCU in Home Opener

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women’s volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in their home opener Wednesday night, losing to the College of Mount Saint Vincent 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-19) and New Jersey City University 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-9). 

 

Against, Mount Saint Vincent, the Lady Cardinals led early in both the second and third sets but could not hold on.   Leading the way for York was sophomore Pamela Lebron (Santo Domingo, DR/ Politenico Las Caobas) with three kills and three blocks.   Charlina Gallegos (Mexico City, MX/ Hillcrest) led York with 10 digs.  

 

For Mt. St. Vincent, Christina Pierre led the Dolphins with five kills and four blocks.   Bridget Leonard finished with six service aces. 

 

In the second match of the night, York struggled against a strong NJCU team and never threatened.   NJCU’s Jacqueline LeBlanc had a game-high 13 kills to lead the Gothic Knights.

 

With the win, the Gothic Knights improve to 2-3, while York falls to 0-6.

 

The Lady Cardinals will return to action on Saturday when they open their conference season against Medgar Evers and Baruch in a multi-match at Lehman College.
