Game Two Box Score

JAMAICA , NY— The York College softball team was swept in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, losing to Elmira College, 8-0 and 12-1.  The loss drops the Lady Cardinals record to 2-7 on the season.

Game One Recap

The Lady Cardinal bats could not muster a hit against the Elmira duo of Casandra Fontinell and Kelli Hadley in the first game of the day.  Fontinell tossed the first three innings, while Hadley closed out the final two frames in a game that went five innings.

Despite the loss, York got a strong effort from starting pitcher Lotonia Dolhouse (Elkhart, Indiana/ Maxwell) who allowed four earned runs, struck out one and did not walk a batter in five innings.

Game Two Recap

Once again the Lady Cardinal bats were silenced against a strong Elmira pitching staff.    Despite the offensive struggles, York was still within striking distance, at 5-0, in the fourth inning.  However a three-run home run off the bat of Stephany Fontinell  put the game out of reach.

However, York finally got on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  Dalhouse opened the inning with an infield single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.    Dalhouse then scored on an RBI groundout by Ashley Willock (Valencia, Trinidad/ Campus Magnet) to give York their first run of the day.

However, Elmira struck back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, turning the nightcap into a five inning game as well.  It was Stephany Fontinell who provided the big blow once again, connecting on a two-run double in the inning.

York will return to conference play this Friday when they visit Hunter College at 4:00 p.m.
