JAMAICA, NY— The York College tennis team cruised to an easy, 8-1, win over conference-rival New York City Tech on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, York improves to 2-6, 1-5 in the CUNYAC.
Senior Deva Maharaj (Rio Claro, Trinidad/ St. Stephens) won his third straight match at first singles, as he defeated City Tech’s James Brandon, 6-2, 6-4. Michael Song (Hollis, NY/ Beach Channel) also won his second match in as many days, winning easily at number six singles, 6-2, 6-2. In addition, Maurice Alleyne (Far Rockaway, NY/ Beach Channel) earned his first victory of the year, winning 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles. Roque Reyes (Woodside, NY/ Bryant) and Mark Feinsod (Great Neck, NY/ Great Neck North) also added wins to round out the singles matches.
York also swept the doubles matches in convincing fashion. Maharaj and Song won 8-4 at first singles, while Feinsod and Reyes won 8-2 at second singles and Alleyne and Robert Gerov (Forest Hills, NY/ Fresh Meadows) won 8-5 at third singles.
York will return to action on Friday when they host CCNY at 3:30 p.m.
